Dr. Chanese (CHUH-niece) Forté (FOR-tay) (she/they) received a dual PhD from the University of Michigan in Environmental Health Sciences and Scientific Computing. Her Master of Public Health degrees are from the University of Georgia. Her research has spanned industries and toxicological research methods. Her passion is analytics and approach determination for advanced public health research and predictive modeling. As a Scientist at the Union of Concerned Scientists. Her current research focuses on nuclear weapons risk and human health in the United States. She employs environmental epidemiology and toxicology to understand how communities are affected by the nuclear weapons complex. Her research aims to address environmental justice by informing environmental and nuclear policy. Since joining the Union of Concerned Scientists, Dr. Forté has spearheaded research focused on understanding the unique burden on nuclear weapons on women and girl’s health that nuclear weapons poses. She was also a 2023 Harvard Black Health Conference panelist and provided a Seminar at the 2023 Princeton Science and Global Security Summer Symposium. She collaborates directly with community and scientists to best approach applying pressure to decision makers as it pertains to nukes. Previously, Dr. Forté has researched farmworkers’ pesticide exposure in Thailand, post-traumatic stress disorder among active-duty Sailors and Marines, and cancer prevention among Black elders in northeast Georgia. Forté has also investigated research funding for women's health and reproductive justice and led the development of a patient health dashboard for breast cancer patients. Within any organization, Dr. Forté always brings her personable and outgoing disposition, extensive organization skills, scientific writing expertise, strong work ethic and inclusive communication skills.
